Finland (2025)

About:
The City of Helsinki, with its 75,200 students and 16,100 teachers, has long embraced Google Workspace for Education, with 70% of users engaging daily and all users upgraded to Workspace for Education Plus in 2024. While Windows devices and iPads (from grade 3) dominate the device fleet, Chromebooks have so far played a limited role.
The Albus pilot tested whether Chromebooks and Google Workspace for Education can support everyday teaching and learning in early grades, where students typically do not have personal devices. It introduced a 1:1 Chromebook experience for grade 1 at two sites: Kontula Primary School and Pakila Comprehensive School, piloting Class Tools to enable more structured class management.
Kontula Primary School (Kontulan ala-asteen koulu) is a municipal primary school located in the Kontula district of Helsinki. It serves ~460 students of grades 1–6, with instruction primarily in Finnish.
Pakila Comprehensive School (Pakilan peruskoulu) is a municipal school in the Länsi-Pakila district of Helsinki that includes grades 1–9, encompassing both primary and lower secondary education, serving ~1k students. The school began operations on 1 August 2025 following the merger of the former primary and lower secondary units.
